These messages appear 'official' with content that the company is updating it's records and needs you to confirm your personal information. Even when clicking on the link the web site may look official when in fact it is a bogus destination with the goal of capturing your personal information to commit identity fraud!
Reputable companies do NOT ask you to follow an email link to update your personal information. Banks, credit card companies, eBay, PayPal, insurance companies and other financial organizations do NOT use links embedded in an email for you to update your account information. It is best to delete these 'official looking' emails.
